1995/1996 Competition

The Heineken Cup was the premier club rugby competition in Europe.

The 1995 Heineken Cup was the first edition of the competition. Teams from 5 nations played in it. A team from Romania was involved, the only time a team from that nation has played in the competition. No teams from England or Scot land were involved as they were not permitted to play by their national unions.

There were 4 pools of 3 teams, with each team playing the others once, so 2 games, one at home and one away. The pool winners qualified for semi-finals.
