The 2000 Currie Cup Top 8 competition had the top 4 teams from each of the two sections of a qualifying series. Points gained in the qualifying series, from playing the other teams that qualified in their group, were carried forward to the Top 8 competition. Teams then played the teams that qualified from the other group once. The top 4 teams went on to the semi-finals.
