The 2005 Anglo Welsh Cup, known as the Powergen Cup, is a rugby competition played by the 12 English Premiership teams and the 4 Welsh regional teams. This competition was an updated version of the old English knock-out club competition that had been running for 34 years.
A change in format came with the admission of the 4 Welsh regional teams.
The 2005/06 competition had 4 groups with 4 teams in each group. Each group had 3 English and 1 Welsh team in it. Each team played the other teams in the group once. The group winners progress through to the knock-out stages.
