2011 Super Rugby Results

The 2011 Super Rugby results are from the southern hemisphere's leading rugby competition which featured teams from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Since 1996, teams from the three countries have been playing for the title.

A fifth Australian team was added to the competition, making 15 teams for the first time. There were 5 teams from each of the 3 countries. This also meant a change in format, with there being regional conferences as well as the main competition table.

Each team played the other teams in it's conference twice, home and away. They also played 8 of the teams from the other conferences, 4 away and 4 at home.

The winners of each conference made it through to the play-offs, regardless of where they were on the main table. The next 3 best finishing teams also made it into the play-offs.

NB: The Crusaders v Hurricanes match on February 26 was not played due to the Christchurch earthquake. The match was recorded as a draw for the competiton points.

The 2nd match was played in Wellington but was considered a home match for the Crusaders.

The AMI Stadium in Christchurch has not reopened following the earthquakes and will be demolished at some time in the future.

Play-offs

The 3 winners of the conferences (regardless of where they were placed overall) and the next 3 best placed teams made it through to the play-off round. In 2011 this meant the top 6 teams qualified, being the top two teams from each conference.

In the 1st qualifier, the team in 4th place played the team in 5th place. The 2nd qualifier was between teams in 3rd place and 6th place. The winners moved on to play the 1st and 2nd placed teams in the semi-finals.
