In 2020 the Super Rugby season was postponed due to the worldwide COVID 19 pandemic. After 7 rounds had been played the competition was postponed indefinitely. In Australia all rugby was cancelled for a period of time. As the country moved out of the restrictions imposed, Rugby Australia announced a competition for the 4 Super Rugby teams and the Western Force team. Under the guidelines in place at the time only limited numbers of spectators were allowed into the stadiums on match day. At the end of the regular games the top 3 teams progressed to play-off games. The 2nd placed team played the 3rd placed team, with the winner progressing further to play the top team in the final. |
The new competition will have some new rules in place to try making the games faster and more entertaining.
