In 2020 the Super Rugby season was postponed due to the worldwide COVID 19 pandemic. After 7 rounds had been played the competition was postponed indefinitely. In South Africa all rugby was cancelled. When the country was able to look forward to restarting sport a new Super Rugby Unlocked competition was announced, similar to the competitions that had been played in New Zealand and Australia. The 4 Super Rugby teams were joined by 3 other teams to play a 7 round competition. The top team in the standings at the end of the 7 rounds was the champion. The 3 teams to join the Super teams were the Cheetahs, Pumas and Griquas. |
